WATTS’UP® receives an approved health claim from Health Canada

Health Canada has issued a Product Licence for WATTS’UP® and has approved the use of the following health claim: “Helps improve physical performance during exercise in trained male athletes”. WATTS’UP®, a customized flavonoid extract from sweet orange, was tested in a double-blind, placebo controlled study in trained male athletes, and showed a significant improvement in exercise performance.
The issued health claim
Health Canada has issued a Product Licence for WATTS’UP®. Pursuant to this Product Licence, WATTS’UP® is recommended to be used as “Athletic support” or “Workout/Exercise supplement”.
The following specific claims have been allowed by Health Canada: “Helps improve physical performance during exercise in trained male athletes”, and “Provides antioxidants that help cells fight against the oxidative effect of free radicals and that helps protect cells and reduce oxidative damage and cell damage caused by free radicals”
The Journal of Sports Science and Medicine has published the results of the latest clinical study with WATTS’UP®. WATTS’UP®, a customized flavonoid extract from sweet orange with enhanced bioavailability, was tested in trained male athletes and showed a significant increase in power output during the exercise test. This study is the first study in athletes conclusively showing that a specific flavonoid extract contributes to exercise performance.
WATTS’UP® can already be found on the market in several products in the USA and Europe. It can be applied in various finished dosage forms, including effervescent tablets, capsules, RTD sachets and beverages.
