WATTS’UP® clinical results on the improvement of exercise performance in trained athletes have been published in a peer reviewed scientific journal

The Journal of Sports Science and Medicine has published the results of the latest clinical study with WATTS’UP®. WATTS’UP®, a customized flavonoid extract from sweet orange, was tested in a double-blind, placebo controlled study in trained male athletes and showed a significant improvement in exercise performance.
WATTS’UP®’s Clinical Outcomes
The purpose of this study was to assess whether supplementation of WATTS’UP® for 4 weeks improved ergogenic performance in trained male athletes.
In a double-blind, randomised, parallel study trained males were given a daily dose of either 500 mg of WATTS’UP® or a placebo for 4 weeks. Exercise performance was tested by means of a time-trial test on a cycle ergometer, during which participants had to generate a maximum of power until exhaustion for a duration of 10 minutes.
Absolute power output significantly increased after 4 weeks of WATTS’UP® supplementation compared to the placebo, corresponding with a 5.0% increase. In addition, the oxygen consumption/power ratio significantly decreased in the WATTS’UP® group compared to placebo. Besides, a trend was found in the change in peak force output in the WATTS’UP® group compared to placebo.
This study is the first study in athletes conclusively showing that a specific flavonoid extract contribute to exercise performance. WATTS’UP® has been specifically developed to contain a high concentration of the most active isomer hesperidin 2S and an earlier pharmacokinetics study showed that the product is more quickly absorbed compared to a generic hesperidin extract.
WATTS’UP® can already be found on the market in several products in the USA and Europe. It can be applied in various finished dosage forms, including effervescent tablets, capsules, RTD sachets and beverages.
